Drafting Instructions for Men's Pants

Draft pattern for men's pants by following these manual drafting instructions, or use the form below to generate drafting instructions specifically for your measurements.

Also check out my "improvement" to this pattern.

(NOTE: the instructions generated are specifically for the measurements that you enter, but then you have to actually draft (draw) the pattern by hand, following those instructions! If you'd like a more automated solution, check out Dress Shop App.)

All measurements are to be taken with the customer wearing a well-fitting pair of pants.

Inseam and outseam measurements can be taken off of a well-fitting pair of pants, as can pant leg's widths at knee and cuff.
Seam allowance of 1/4" (0.6cm) is included.

Use metric units

Outseam taken from the top edge of the waistband ( 1.5"-wide (3.9 cm) waistband assumed) to the hem.
Inseam taken from the crotch seam intersection to the hem.
Waist taken at natural waistline (best taken at the top edge of the waistband while wearing a well-fitting pair of pants).
Seat taken around the fullest part of the hip, while wearing pants.
Knee Width knee width (i.e. half of the pant leg circumference): taken at the knee, from a well-fitting pair of pants, or as the design calls for.
Bottom Width pant leg width at hem (i.e. half of the pant leg circumference) taken at the hem, from a well-fitting pair of pants, or as the design calls for.
Cuff Depth depth of cuff (leave blank if pants are not to have cuffs)
